Selection for membership in the National Honor Society is made by a faculty council and is based on outstanding scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
A student who has outstanding scholarship: Must maintain a 92% average or higher
A student who exercises leadership: Needs to provide documentation for 50 hours of leadership positions/roles
Demonstrates leadership in promoting school activities Exercises influence on peers in encouraging school spirit Is resourceful in contributing ideas that improve school life Is able to delegate responsibilities Exemplifies positive attitudes Inspires positive behavior in others Demonstrates academic initiative in classroom activities Successfully holds position of responsibility, conducts business efficiently and effectively, and is reliable and dependable without prodding Demonstrates leadership in the classroom, at work, and in school activities Is dependable in any responsibility accepted
A student who serves: Needs to provide documentation for 100 service hours
Maintains a loyal school attitude Participates in some outside activities: scouts, 4 - H, church groups, volunteers service for the aged, disabled, poor, disadvantaged, etc... Is dependable and well - organized Works well with others and is willing to take on difficult or less visible responsibilities Cheerfully and enthusiastically renders service to the school Is willing to represent the class or school in inter - class and inter - scholastic competitions Completes committee and staff work without complaining Shows courtesy by assisting students, visitors, teachers, substitutes, and other school personnel
A student of character: Takes criticism willingly and will seriously consider recommendations Exemplifies desirable qualities of personality, including cheerfulness, friendliness, poise, and stability Upholds principles of morality and ethics Cooperates by complying with school regulations concerning school property, facilities, and activities Demonstrates the highest standards of honesty and reliability Shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others Observes instructions and rules inside and outside of the classroom Recognizes harmful influences in the school environment and assists in improving the school atmosphere
